Walking my boys to school in the morning, I'm reminded daily of the importance of encouraging more people to leave their cars at home.
It seems every day congestion on our neighbourhood roads causes problems for our community.
Each day people all the way from Ellenbrook across to Yanchep drive through our local Yokine, Dianella and Mount Lawley streets on their way to and from work.
That's why I'm glad to be a member of a government that takes public transport seriously.
Whether it's investment in new buses, planning for the introduction of light rail, or building METRONET, Western Australians know that it's Labor that can be trusted to invest in public transport.
By building METRONET and reducing car use in the northern and eastern suburbs we'll reduce pressure on our local streets.
It's a massive project, and we've only just begun!
To get it moving, the McGowan Government has:
- Brought rail car manufacturing back to WA.
- Invested in the Western Australian fit out of 900 new buses over the next 10 years.
- Passed preliminary legislation to get the Morley-Ellenbrook line underway.
- Extended the rail line to Yanchep.
